Dr. Honggang Wang is a professor and the “Scholar of The Year” (2016, only one per year at UMass Dartmouth). Before he joined UMass Dartmouth in 2009, he has worked for Bell Labs Lucent Technologies China from 2001 to 2004 as a Member of Technical Staff and recieved Lucent Global Switching Software Silver Award, in Naperville IL, USA, 2002. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering at University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2009. He was early promoted to a full professor in 2020. He is an alumnus of NAE Frontiers of Engineering program and was an invited participant by National Academic Engineering (NAE) for 2017 German-American Frontiers of Engineering Symposium, as one of about 50 outstanding engineers (ages 30-45) from US companies, universities, and government labs. His research interests include Internet of Things, Connected Health, Wireless Body Area Networks (BAN), Multimedia Communication and Applications, Wireless Health, Cyber and Multimedia Security, Wireless Networks and Cyber-physical System, Connected Vehicle and BIG DATA in mHealth. His research has been mainly supported by NSF (6 grants), NIH, DoT, UMass President office, and UMass Healey Grant (total over 3.5 M dollars). He received UMass Dartmouth Sponsored Research Rcognition Award in 2015. His research is reported by media such as USA ABC 6 TV, Standard Times Newspaper. He is an IEEE distinguished lecturer and an IEEE Fellow with the citation “for contribution to low power wireless for IoT and multimedia applications”.

  • Dr. Wang has been named IEEE Fellow (class 2021) for his “contributions to low power wireless for IoT and multimedia applications”.
  • We recieved the Best Paper Award from The 16th IEEE International Conference on Mobility, Sensing and Networking (IEEE MSN 2020).
  • Dr. Wang was invited to give an IEEE distinguished lecture on “IoT for Smart and Connected Health” to IEEE Baltimore section on Nov. 5, 2020
  • Dr. Wang was invited to give a lightning talk in NSF supported NRDZ partnership meeting on Nov. 10.
  • We recieved a new NSF Supplement fund that is intended to provide opportunity to explore the feasibility of National Radio Dynamic Zone (NSF’s new Spectrum Innovation Initiative)
  • We recieved a new NSF award for the project titled “Collaborative Research: Enabling Machine Learning based Cooperative Perception with mmWave Communication for Autonomous Vehicle Safety”.
  • Dr. Wang was invited to give a keynote for the 22nd IEEE International Conference on High Performance Computing and Communications (HPCC-2020), 14-16 December 2020, Fiji.
  • Congratulations to Ph.D. student Paul C Proffitt in our lab for his successful Ph.D. dissertation defense on December 18, 2019. He is the eighth Ph.D. graduate under my supervsion.
  • Dr. Wang was early promoted to a full professor.

  • We recieved the best paper award from IEEE Globecom 2019 which is a flagship conference of IEEE Communicaiton Society (ComSoc).

  • Congratulations to Ph.D. student Zhouzhou Li (advised by me and Prof. Hua Fang) in our lab for his successful Ph.D. dissertation defense on April 24, 2019. He will work as a a tenure-track assistant Professor at Southeast Missouri State University in Fall 2019.
  • Congratulations to Ph.D. student Nashid Anjum (advisee) in our lab for his successful Ph.D. dissertation defense on April 17, 2019. He will work as a tenure-track assistant Professor at Eastern Connecticut State University in Fall 2019.
  • Dr. Wang serves as the General Chair of IEEE International Conference on Industrial Internet (ICII) 2019.
  • Featured Speaker for IEEE Summit on Communications Futures 2019 with Prof. Daneshmand from Stevens the topic of “Artificial Intelligence (AI) Driven Networks” on Jan 19, 2019.
  • Dr. Wang was invited to give a Talk at Wayne State University on “Towards Secure and Smart Connected Health”on Jan 22 2019.
  • Dr. Wang serves as the TPC Chair of IEEE ICME (International Conference on Multimedia and Expo) 2019, a flagship multimedia conference sponsored by four IEEE societies since 2000.
  • Dr. Wang has been invited to serve as a TPC member for serveral prestigious onferences such as WWW 2019, ACM Mutlimedia 2018, IEEE ICDM 2018, IEEE SECON 2019.
